Before the Estate Sale

At 6:00 AM on each sale day, we will post the estate sale address online. This helps protect the home and its contents. Please do not approach the property before 6:00 AM, or you may be subject to trespassing. Most homes are equipped with alarm systems, and valuables are removed from the premises outside of sale hours.

 

Entry to the Estate Sale

Honest Estate Sales admits guests first come, first served—the first people in line are the first invited in when the home opens. To maintain safety and comfort, we allow a limited number of shoppers inside at a time, with entry provided in intervals. (In general, larger homes allow more guests inside.) If you arrive early or a large crowd is expected, everyone must line up for entry according to “The List.”

Honest Estate Sales uses a written list to help track each person’s place in line. The list will not be available before 6:00 AM on the first day of the sale. Please note: attendees in line control the list, not Honest Estate Sales. However, our staff may reference the list to help manage and organize entry.

Shopping the Estate Sale

Inside, you’ll find a wide variety of items displayed and available for purchase. If you see something you’d like to buy, pick it up and keep it with you—so long as it’s easy to carry. Please bring your own boxes. For larger or difficult-to-carry items, we provide an “on-hold” area near checkout. If an item is hard to carry, let a team member know—we will mark it “SOLD” and record your name and phone number on the item. Please inspect and test items carefully; all items are sold as-is, and we do not offer guarantees, refunds, or exchanges after purchase. Lastly, customers must carry out all purchased items, as we do not offer loading assistance.

Pricing

As a general rule, prices are not negotiable on the first day of a sale. We price items in a fair and reasonable manner. For sales running more than one day, we may reduce prices on the second day at our discretion. Alternatively, if you’d like to offer less than the marked price, please ask a team member for a bid card.

How the "Bid System" Works

Bid cards are available at the checkout area and should be placed in the bid box. All bids must be at least 50% of the marked price (for example, a $100 item has a minimum bid of $50). Successful bidders are notified after the first sale day closes. Winning bidders must arrange payment and pickup the next morning. All bidders are expected to honor their bids. If a winning bidder does not follow through, the item may be offered to the next highest bidder or returned to the sale for the general public.
