Vintage Clothing: 5 Types to Lookout for

The quest for vintage clothing has become increasingly popular at estate sales in Tacoma, Gig Harbor, and Olympia. If you are on the lookout for a unique, one-of-a-kind piece, here are five types of vintage clothes that are the best to look for at estate sales. These are some of the most popular items and are a great find if you plan to resell the item.

We will start with this disclaimer: always inspect the pieces for damages or stains and ask the seller about the history of the piece. If you're not sure of the value of an item, do some research or consult an expert.

  • Vintage Suits: Both men's and women's vintage suits are something to keep an eye out for. These are often in excellent condition, as they were made with high-quality materials and were designed to last. We recommend you look for suits from the 1920s to the 1960s, as these are the most valuable. You should also pay attention to labels and craftsmanship (seams, hems, linings), as these indicate the quality and value of the suit.

  • Vintage Dresses: Vintage dresses are another great find at estate sales. You'll find dresses of every type, from formal evening gowns to casual day dresses. As with suits, dresses from the 1920s through the 1960s, are considered to be the most valuable. And be sure to try to find a label. They are usually along the hem or a side seam.

  • Vintage Shoes: We always enjoy seeing vintage shoes at estate sales. They are unique and will add a touch of style to any outfit. When choosing vintage shoes for yourself, be sure to buy a pair you love and will wear. If you're looking to resell, do some research on the resale value. We are lucky enough to have our phones, so real-time research is quick and easy.

  • Vintage Accessories: Accessories like vintage handbags, hats, and jewelry can add a touch of elegance to any outfit. As you search for your next treasure, you will find both costume jewelry and luxury brands.

We recommend you take a look at recent blog posts that talk about all you need to know in terms of spotting fake watches and handbags in this post, Handbags and Watches - How to Spot a Fake.

  • Vintage Linens: Vintage linens include everything from pillowcases and handkerchiefs to tablecloths and they feature handmade details that can’t be found in modern linen. Keep an eye out for details and be sure to ask about the history of a piece.
